Did we really need MobileMe?

Performance and bugs aside, I'm perplexed at why Apple needed to introduce MobileMe.

1. Do we need yet another online calendar especially one with so little features?
2. Do we need yet another e-mail address? @me.com is cute and all but really?
3. Do we need yet another service to store our addressbook?

Here's a few things Apple needs to do:

1. Support CalDAV directly in the iPhone Calendar client to allow consumers to use other calendars like Google Calendar
2. Directly sync MobileMe Address Book with Outlook and Google.
3. Allow iPhone users to wireless sync Address Book with Google.
