iPhone 3G - Is it time to get one?

I found myself drooling after seeing the initial pics and specs of the new iPhone. Today is another day and I am of more rational mind:

  • no MMS: It's got a camera and 3G but no MMS?
  • no copy & paste: It's been 18 months since the first iPhone was released and they still couldn't figure this out?
  • 16GB storage: Expected to see at last 30GB. Still can't replace my iPod.
  • Carrier locked: They include a SIM card removal tool in the box but now that AT&T is subsidizing it, it'll come locked with all the downsides of unlocking from version 1.0. Pretty good chance that unlocked versions will be available from EU countries requiring it.
  • Expensive: The phone may be cheaper but since it's being subsidized, it actually costs more once you take the service fees that come with the 2 year contract with AT&T.
  • No keyboard: Not sure how they tap into the enterprise market without a keyboard.
  • No video: Treo 600 did it but iPhone can't?

Don't get me wrong. I think iPhone is definitely a superior device compared to what's available. I'm not fully convinced that I need to replace my Blackberry Curve which, for all its faults, does the basic things right and it has a full keyboard.

Now that I'm a Mac convert, I'm iPhone friendly and I may start drooling again come July 11th.
